The best day to visit is on a Saturday morning when the lively street market adds to the atmosphere. There is a train station which, on a normal weekday has about six trains to the city of Cartagena and Murcia.
In an almost totally flat district the only elevation is the hill 'Cabezo Gordo', where a number of native ecosystems of local flora and fauna can be found, especially birds. The hill is also home to an important archaeological find known as 'Sima de las Palomas' internationally recognized for the discovery of hominid remains, tools and animal fossils.
There is a charming 9 hole par 3 pitch and putt course situated within the town of Torre Pacheco. It opened in 1989 and is very mature. It is full of character with a couple of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers which offer a fun day for all. There is a small café at the entrance with views over the course.
