CORONA UPDATE – The situation in Spain on March 20, 2020.

The crisis measures in Spain will last until after Easter. The authorities will thus prevent a large number of people from moving around Spain on Easter days.

This should be seen in the light of the fact that in 2019 15 million Spaniards travelled on Easter holidays by car, 5 million travelled by plane, 6 million by bus and 3 million travelled by train.

  • The number of departures from Spanish airports has now been reduced to half.
  • Road traffic now accounts for only 11% of normal.
  • Hotels in Spain must close within a week.
  • Police are increasing the control of those who go outside their homes.

Number of infected in the different Spanish regions:

  • 17147 are registered infected with virus in Spain as of today, March 20.
  • Of those infected in Spain, 6777 are in Madrid and 3271 in the Barcelona area.
  • In the Valencia region, which counts approx. 5.5 million inhabitants and geographically the size of Denmark) there are currently 921 registered infected.
  • In the Andalusia region, which has 8.5 million inhabitants, 1008 are infected.
  • In the Canary Islands, 287 infected have been registered.
  • In the Balearic Islands, 203 infected have been registered.

In comparison, UK has 3277 infected, Denmark 1151, Sweden 1423, Norway 1552, Finland 400, Iceland 330, Germany 14138, Netherlands 2460, Belgium 1795, as of today according to European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
